San Mateo Housing and the Environment Primer

The San Mateo County Housing and Environment Primer is a graphically-rich policy document describing the relationship between housing and the environment.

The project team worked closely with the San Mateo County Department of Housing to develop a Primer that is accessible and directly relevant to the development landscape of San Mateo County. It included explanations with accompanying illustrations of a range of housing concepts, including infill development and green building. The County is using the document, with a final title of Green Spaces, Livable Places, as a tool to reach out to policymakers and community leaders and to expand community-wide understanding of the environmental benefits of infill development, with a particular focus on greenhouse gas emissions.
